Course Content

WEEK- 1
Introduction to Structural Engineering Basics of structural engineering principles. Overview of different types of structures.

WEEK- 2
Understanding the interface and workspace. Basic features and tools.

WEEK- 3
Static and dynamic analysis principles. Load types and their effects.

WEEK- 4
Creating 3D models of structures. Assigning materials and properties Project 1: Multi-story Building Design Design a multi-story residential or commercial building using STAAD Pro. Consider various loads such as dead loads, live loads, and wind loads. Optimize the design for both strength and economy. Project 2: Tall Tower Analysis Analyze the stability and structural behavior of a tall tower or communication mast. Investigate the effects of wind loads and dynamic analysis on the structure.

WEEK- 5
Applying different types of loads. Defining boundary conditions.

WEEK- 6
Performing structural analysis. Designing members for various load combinations.

WEEK- 7
Interpretation of analysis results. Verifying against design codes and standards. Nonlinear analysis. Dynamic analysis (response spectrum, time history). Foundation design. Importing/exporting models. Collaborating with other engineering software.

WEEK- 8
Project- 3: Composite Structure Design Explore the design of composite structures, where different materials such as steel and concrete are used together. This could include composite beams or composite floor systems. Project 4: Renovation and Retrofitting Analyze an existing structure and propose renovation or retrofitting solutions using STAAD Pro. This could involve strengthening the structure to meet current code requirements.
